Understanding your urinalysis results

Your urinalysis results can be better understood with the following information in hand.

It is important to understand there are many possible reasons for variations in urinalysis results. Only your Physician can diagnose a medical condition. If you have any questions or concerns about the urinalysis results, please discuss them with your personal Physician.

Urine Specific Gravity
Urine Creatine

Urine specific gravity and urine creatine are methods of measuring urine concentration. These results are of little significance by themselves, but are useful in interpreting other urine test results.

Urine Glucose

Urine glucose is the presence of sugar in the urine, which in some cases, may be caused by diabetes.

Urine Total Protein
Urine Protein/Creatine Ratio

Protein in the urine can result from a wide variety of causes. The protein/creatine ratio is used to help determine whether the amount of protein present in a urine specimen is potentially significant by correcting for the degree of urine concentration.

Urine Red Blood Count
Urine White Blood Count

The presence of red or white blood cells in the urine can reflect problems with eh kidneys, ureters, or bladder. Red blood cells in the urine can also occur during menstruation.

Urine Hyaline or Granular Casts

Cast in the urine may be seen in certain kinds of kidney diseases.
